Let us take a minute to talk about adaptation and chiropractic and how the two relate.

How are adaptation and chiropractic related?

Adaptation is an organism’s ability to become better suited to its environment. It’s something that has let us grow and change and be able to handle what life throws at us. It’s why you’re easily able to handle training you started with months ago that was initially hard and why after starting to drink lots of water for weeks, you eventually no longer have to pee every 20 minutes. Adaptation is a great tool that our body is continuously using to make things easier for us. This is why adaptation and chiropractic go so well together. Without this ability, your body wouldn’t be able to hold onto the changes we are making. Unfortunately, sometimes it works against us also.

The body is quick to adapt to the many stimuli we provide it for better or for worse. Our body is so efficient sometimes that it can adapt too quick. When something in your body isn’t working right, and you aren’t addressing it, the body essentially thinks “this is the way it’s going to be, so I better get used to it.” The body starts dampening these signals being sent to the brain saying something is wrong because it doesn’t think it’s going to change.

This is why you’re able to forget about that necklace you’re always wearing without feeling it tugging on you constantly. It would be unbearable if you had to feel your clothes constantly scratching on you with every single movement. While this sounds like a good thing, this process can only last for so long when the aggravating signal is doing harm, like with a vertebra with reduced movement. Eventually, the disfunction that the body has will catch up, and the body won’t be able to cope with it, and the dam will break. Before this happens, however, there are cracks in the dam that you can watch out for.

Why get checked by a chiropractor?

Muscle tightness, achiness, and loss of range of motion all usually prelude the pain that people experience. That’s why it’s crucial to come to get your body checked out periodically, even if you aren’t experiencing any pain at the moment. These visits address any issues that would come cropping up down the line before they start to bother you. Think about how many times you have thought you’re your back was tight or uncomfortable before the old “straw that broke the camel’s back” comes to visit.

Here at Express Chiropractic of Frisco, we make it quick and affordable for you to make proactive actions toward your health! Let one of our Doctors of Chiropractic and/or licensed massage therapists help you stop any issues you may be having BEFORE they even rear their ugly head.

Just as adaptation can, unfortunately, cause some of these issues, it is also the key to helping fix them! Adaptation and chiropractic go well together because not only can chiropractic break the negative patterns, it can also reinforce the positive ones. After being regularly adjusted and treated, the body starts to hold on to and remember these patterns that we have helped instill. This means fewer overall visits, less discomfort, and less time not being out of commission!
