Focused massage does not only feel great but it can also help you heal faster! That is why in our Frisco office we combine focused massage with our chiropractic adjustments.
Chiropractic and focused massage
While both chiropractic and focused massage use a hands-on approach to healing the body, they have different effects. Chiropractors focus on the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles, bones). Massage therapists focus on the musculoskeletal system with most of the focus being on the muscles.
The goal of a good focused massage is to release the tension that builds up in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the affected muscles. Typically these may feel like knots or tight muscles. They can cause pain, stiffness, lack of range of motion and a host of other symptoms. Dysfunction in the muscles can also lead to tension headaches when the neck is affected.
By loosening up the muscles (either before or after the adjustment) it often allows the adjustment to hold better. Remember muscles attach to bone and therefore if too tight (or loose) it can affect the anatomy of the joint as well.
It is important when after massages (and adjustments) to make sure you drink plenty of water. This is due to the fact that you are releasing toxins and inflammation from those tight muscles and joints. By staying properly hydrated your body will have an easier time getting rid of them.
By helping loosen up your muscles and allowing your joints to move easier getting massaged along with your adjustments allows your body to heal at a faster rate. Not only can the combination help to relieve symptoms but it may also help your body function at a higher level. This is what we call wellness, not just the absence of symptoms.
