As you could probably imagine, at Express Chiropractic Frisco we see a lot of people with tight muscles. In this short post, we cover what might be the most enjoyable way to improve the health of your spine.
Dark Chocolate has specific nutrients that are proven to have benefits to your health and specifically for your bones, nerves, and muscles.
Two of the primary nutrients in dark chocolate that are of benefit include Manganese and Magnesium.
Manganese helps regulate your blood sugar and supports the health of your nervous system. You need it to absorb calcium and to break down carbohydrates and fats. It also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
Magnesium is a key mineral in the structure of the bone matrix and is also required for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. If blood magnesium levels drop, magnesium will be pulled from the bones. When this happens, bone density may be lessened. That is not a good thing. Magnesium also helps relax tight muscles which may help improve flexibility and range of motion.
THE BEST DARK CHOCOLATE
A 100-gram bar of dark chocolate with 70–85% cocoa should contain roughly 58% of the recommended daily intake for magnesium. It should also have about 98% of the RDI for manganese!
Make sure the brand you choose is 100% organic and contains 70% cacao at a minimum. Ideally, it has also not been processed with alkali.
A few well-ranked Dark Chocolate brands that meet these standards include Alter Ego, Chocolove, Pascha, Pure 7, Taza, and Theo.
In addition to dark chocolate, other foods rich in both magnesium and manganese include Beans, Brown Rice, Nuts, and Spinach.
