As a new patient or even one that has been in for several visits, you may wonder what type of chiropractic adjustments we perform. Over the next five posts, I will do my best to explain each of the five main types of chiropractic adjustments we use at Express Chiropractic of Frisco.
Part 1 – Diversified Chiropractic Adjustments
What is Diversified Technique?
The Chiropractic Resource Organization (Chiro.org) describes the diversified technique as follows:
This is a widely used type of chiropractic manipulation/ adjustment that includes most of the procedures taught at chiropractic schools. This technique is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one probably most familiar to patients. The Diversified manipulation/adjustment entails a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust that usually results in a cavitation of a joint (quick, shallow thrusts that cause the popping noise often associated with a chiropractic manipulation/adjustment).
To put it simply diversified technique is one where a chiropractor uses their hands for the adjustments. We do so to provide movement to misaligned spinal or extremity bones. This type of adjustment is where you may hear the sound which patients may describe as a “crack” or “pop.”
Wait…you are going to crack me?
This is a common misconception. Nothing is actually getting “cracked.” The audible pop that you often hear is a release of gas from the joint capsule. As stated by Florida Spine & Injury, regarding the noises, “They are caused by the tiny pockets of air taking in the form of fluid which surrounds your joints, being released, which is also referred to as Joint Cavitation.“
Why get chiropractic adjustments?
There are many reasons to get chiropractic adjustments. The most common reason people come to our office is due to pain. Whether it is low back pain, neck pain, headaches, mid back pain, rib pain or anything else we can usually help.
The even better news is that we may be able to help you with more than just pain! When you have pressure on your nerves, it can affect your body in many ways.
This is why at Express Chiropractic of Frisco we focus more on wellness and maintenance chiropractic care. That is we try to help you with your aches and pains. But our main goal is to keep your body functioning optimally. Pain relief is a nice bonus!
